Certifying Excellence in Orthopaedic Nursing

Exam Description

A company called Morrison Media, LLC, advertises a certification preparation program of study for the orthopaedic nurses certification (ONCŪ) examination.  Please note Morrison Media is not affiliated with the Orthopaedic Nurses Certification Board or the National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses (NAON). Its representatives have no involvement in the preparation or testing of the ONC examination. The product is neither sanctioned nor approved by the Orthopaedic Nurses Certification Board.

The ONC exam is based on an analysis of the practice of thousands of orthopaedic nurses across the United States. From that analysis, a test blueprint is constructed to determine what percentage of questions will cover each area of practice (content areas) and each nursing role (test objectives).


Test Content Areas

Degenerative disease 30% Teach self care to achieve maximum functional capacity. 25%

Orthopaedic trauma 21% Select appropriate management strategies for patient's altered comfort. 25%

Sports injuries 15% Select appropriate measures to prevent, minimize, or alleviate complications. 25%

Neuromuscular/pediatrics/congenital 8% Identify activity and positioning parameters as well as appropriate assistive devices for a given orthopaedic condition. 15%

Inflammatory disorders 8% Identify strategies to promote adequate nutrition prophylactically and therapeutically. 5%

Operative orthopaedics 8% Select approprate emotional support strategies in relation to specific orthopaedic problems. 5%

Metabolic bone disease 7%

 
Orthopaedic oncology 3%
